Throughout his five decades of being an integral performer of the music, saxophonist Charles McPherson has not merely remained true to his Bebop origins but has expanded on them. McPherson remains a strong, viable force on the jazz scene today. He is at the height of his powers combining passionate feeling with intricate patterns of improvisation. McPherson has performed and recorded with such jazz greats as Lionel Hampton, Phil Woods, Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, and had a long stint with Charles Mingus. Let’s party with Charles on the cusp of his 80th birthday!
