Online Event: Ellen Johnson with Charles McPherson

For Instrumentalist & Singers – we come together to experience the vocal music and instrumental music with lyrics of Charles Mingus featuring special guest saxophonist and composer, Charles McPherson!
This unique workshop covers music, analysis, and historical information on eleven songs with lyrics by Charles Mingus, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Joni Mitchell and Ellen Johnson. The songs include “Duke Ellington’s Sound of Love,” “Eclipse,” “Portrait,” “Weird Nightmare,” “The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines,” “Good Bye Porkpie Hat,” “Noddin Ya Head Blues,” “Nostalgia In Times Square,” “Peggy’s Blue Skylight,” “Slippers” and “Orange Was The Color of Her Dress, Then Blue Silk.” Participants will have access to handouts, charts, recordings online and lyrics. There will be an opportunity to perform for both artists using the list of vocal songs above.
